Generally, the fast you come up with (quality) arguments the more time you have to practice with/against the arguments before you use them in a tournament. The practice increases the back and forth in an iterative process that will result in improvement in the arguments over time before they are utilized. This improvement will be greater than if a person just spends more time thinking about it by herself.
