Is it Time to Learn how to AI Well?? 86% of US high school students will be using it soon, 75% of knowledge workers already are
Over the last year, a few surveys have been done on student and teacher AI usage. The. last one shows approximately 50% usage.
It’s the last one that matters. Why? Because AI is being integrated into iPhones, which includes 87% of US high school students.
Based on a survey, the Microsoft Work Trends Index Report claims that 75% of US knowledge workers are using it.
Those who haven’t used it yet will be using it soon.
It’s a good thing that our students are using it, as the same report shows that 66% of leaders say they would not hire someone without AI skills.
Why? Because AI can be used to 3-10X a person’s capability when used well. It certainly maximizes my capabilities that far.
How?
*Spelling and grammar proofing. Haha, everyone does that.
*Writing assistance. Sometimes when I don’t like how something is written, I ask it to rewrite it a few different ways and then I pick and edit.
*Tool switching. Some AI tools are much better at writing than others, so I too switch a lot for idea generation when I’m looking for a thought partner or feedback on my argument ideas and for writing.
*Data Representations. I never mastered Excel or SPSS, but I can represent data well thanks to ChatGPT4-o. Strong data representations are persuasive.
*Document Management. I have thousands of documents synched to my computer. AI searches within the documents for fast retrieval.
*Research with Perplexity. Strong prompting using Opus improves my writing and reduces hallucinations in research.
*GPTs, NotebookLM, and Playlab.ai. These bots speed up my work.
*Presentation generation with copilot and other presentation tools.
*Idea generation and organization
*Working as a thought partner
