Generating Your Own AI Movie: The Technology is Here
Have we started thinking about preparing students to succeed in this world?
I consider myself a very novice user of text-to-video. With single sentence prompt, I was able to generate a pre-people scene of a beach followed by a scene with people. This took me, a non-expert user, 2 minutes.
Where did all of this start, and where is it now?
___
In February, we were all impressed by the release of OpenAI’s Sora
Many argued China would not release it to the public until after the election because the video was so realistic.
Then in May, China released Kling.
And Google released VEO
Last week, Luma released Dream Machine
On Sunday, Runway released NextGen-3.
Ashton Kutcher recently said these models will be able to produce entire movies.
This has the potential to lead to a revolution in moviemaking. Rather than a few highly paid actors and actresses, maybe your “average person” will be able to produce their movies and market them on YouTube. Might we have more creators? Might we have a greater distribution of revenues? Perhaps, but what if AIs become more autonomous, generate their own plots, “test” various movies on YouTube, and then promote those that generate the most interest? This will work as long as we all can afford to be entertained.
